Tri-allate, the active ingredient in Avadex Excel 15G is a thiocarbamate and it acts by inhibiting lipid synthesis. Avadex Excel 15G, when applied to the soil, forms a chemical barrier through which germinating weeds have to grow; they absorb the chemical and are killed. Recommended crops grow through the barrier safely. However wild oats germinating on or near the surface or from well below the treated layer may not be controlled. Weeds not completely controlled will be sensitised to boost programme performance by de-waxing emerging weeds.

The product is safe to all recommended cereal crops if applied either before or after they emerge.

Seedbed and climatic conditions
Apply Avadex Excel 15G to well prepared, moist seedbeds. Very cloddy seedbeds should be avoided although it may be applied to ploughed land prior to working a seedbed for sugar beet. Loose, puffy seedbeds should be consolidated prior to drilling. When applied to the soil surface without incorporating, Avadex Excel 15G needs some moisture after application to be activated.

Where winter cereals are drilled in warm dry conditions in September, application should be delayed until more favourable soil moisture conditions occur.

Where weather conditions are favourable at drilling and during early crop establishment, wild oats can germinate rapidly and grow beyond the susceptible growth stage. Where this might occur, Avadex Excel 15G should be applied within 14 days of drilling.

In direct or shallow drilled crops, apply only post-emergence of the crop up to the 2 leaf stage of wild oats. Apply when rows first visible for control of blackgrass and barren brome.

Avadex Excel 15G may be safely applied during frost, light snow,or rain providing the deflector/spreader plates of the applicator can be cleaned.

Soil Type
Avadex Excel 15G may be used on soils containing less than 10% organic matter.

Following Crops
Do not sow oat or grass crops within a year after treating with Avadex Excel 15G.
Do not undersow grass species in crops that have been treated
It is safe to undersow with Clover and other legumes.

Loose, puffy seedbeds must be consolidated before drilling, otherwise the chemical may come in contact with the seed causing crop thinning.

If applied post-drilling, pre-crop emergence moisture will be required to activate the chemical.

Wheat, durum wheat, triticale and barley seed should lie well below the treated soil layer. If they lie directly in the treated layer they can be killed.

Where crops are shallow drilled, application of Avadex Excel 15G should be delayed until very early postemergence of the crop (rows just visible).

Spring wheat crops drilled in the winter period may only be treated post-emergence.

Apply Avadex Excel 15G using only those machines recommended by Gowan.

When applying through recommended land machines, ensure that the forward speed does not exceed 8 kph (5 mph).

Only use spinning disc granule applicators for treatment of barren brome on headlands, NOT whole fields.

DO NOT:- apply to very cloddy seedbeds.

use when the top 5-8 cm (2-3") of soil is 'bone' dry.
use on soils with more than 10% organic matter. Organic soils include Peat, Fen, Moss and Carr.
apply in strong winds as this will disrupt the even placement of the granule.
use a helicopter to apply Avadex Excel 15G.
use Avadex Excel 15G pre-emergence of direct drilled crops.
undersow grass species in crops that have been treated with this product.
sow oat or grass crops within one year of treating with Avadex Excel 15G.

AVADEX EXCEL 15G MUST BE USED ONLY IN THE AREAS OF USE RECOMMENDED IN THIS SECTION AND APPLIED ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS FOR USE. ALL OTHER USES AND METHODS OF APPLICATION ARE EXCLUDED.
