If you should feel unwell seek medical advice - show the label where possible. Medical guidance is available on a 24 hour basis by telephoning the National Chemical Emergency Centre on 01865 407333 or for doctors, the National Poisons Information Service on 08700 600 6266.

First Aid
When giving first aid always use personal protective equipment if you are likely to be contaminated by contact with the person to whom you are giving aid - see label.

   Remove patient to fresh air.

Skin: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.Wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. If there is persistent irritation, get medical attention.

Eyes: Flush immediately with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes. If there is persistent irritation get medical attention.

Inhalation: Seek medical treatment if symptoms occur apparently due to inhalation. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Give artificial ventilation if breathing stops.

Advice to Physicians
Over Exposure Symptoms: No symptoms diagnostic of systemic poisoning with this product. No specific antidote.

   Treat symptomatically.

Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following personal protective equipment.

WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS), SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND SUITABLE RESPIRATORY PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT when handling the product, contaminated surfaces and cleaning equipment.

WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS) when applying the granules.

However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection.

DANGEROUS TO FISH OR OTHER AQUATIC LIFE. Do not contaminate surface waters or ditches with chemical or used container.

Storage
Keep at temperatures not exceeding 40oc and above -8oc. Protect from frost.

   STATUTORY CONDITIONS RELATING TO USE.
FOR USE ONLY AS AN AGRICULTURAL HERBICIDE

Weeds Controlled
Avadex Excel 15G herbicide controls wild-oats and moderate populations of meadowgrasses and blackgrass. Where barren brome or heavy populations of blackgrass exist in winter crops of wheat and barley, sequential treatments are recommended. When applied pre-emergence of weeds, a useful control of some annual broadleaved weeds results.

Strains of some annual grasses (e.g. black-grass, wild oats and Italian rye-grass) have developed resistance to herbicides why may lead to poor control. A strategy for managing and preventing such resistance should be developed. Guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance Action Group and copies are available from the HGCA, CPA, your distributor, crop advisor or product manufacturer.

Crop Varieties
Do not treat spring varieties of wheat.

Mode of Action
Avadex Excel 15G, when applied to the soil, forms a chemical barrier through which germinating weeds have to grow; they absorb the chemical and are killed. Recommended crops grow through the barrier safely. However wild oats germinating on or near the surface or from well below the treated layer may not be controlled. The product is safe to all recommended winter cereals, including durum wheat. Spring barley and legume crops should only be treated pre-emergence. Beet crops should only be treated pre-drilling.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
THIS PRODUCT MUST BE USED ONLY IN THE AREAS OF USE RECOMMENDED ON THIS LABEL AND APPLIED ACCORDING TO 'DIRECTIONS FOR USE'. ALL OTHER USES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION ARE EXCLUDED.

Crops Maximum individual dose (Product) Maximum number of treatments Latest time of application
Winter Wheat, Winter Barley, Durum Wheat, Triticale, Winter Rye 15 kg/ha 1 per crop Before first node detectable stage
Winter Field Beans, Spring Barley, Peas (vining, dried and seed), Spring Field Beans, Forage Legumes (peas, lucerne, red clover, white clover, sainfoin, tares or vetches) 15 kg/ha 1 per crop Pre-crop emergence
Sugar Beet, Fodder Beet, Mangel, Red Beet 15 kg/ha 1 per crop Pre-drilling

Seedbed and Climatic Conditions
Apply Avadex Excel 15G to well prepared, moist seedbeds. Very cloddy seedbeds should be avoided although it may be applied to ploughed land prior to working a seedbed for sugar beet. Loose, puffy seedbeds should be consolidated prior to drilling. When applied to the soil surface without incorporating, Avadex Excel 15G needs some moisture after application to be activated.

Where winter cereals are drilled in warm dry conditions in September, application should be delayed until more favorable soil moisture conditions occur.

Where weather conditions are favourable at drilling and during early crop establishment, wild oats can rapidly germinate and grow beyond the susceptible growth stage. Where this might occur, Avadex Excel 15G should be applied within 14 days of drilling.

In direct drilled crops, apply only post-emergence of the crop up to the 2 leaf stage of wild-oats.

Soil Type
Avadex Excel 15G may be used on soils containing less than 10% organic matter.

Following Crops
Do not sow oat or grass crops within a year after treating with Avadex Excel 15G.

Do not undersow grass species in crops that have been treated with this product. It is safe to undersow with clover and other legumes.
